Park University Hosting Housing Insecurity Summit

October 3, 2022 — With homelessness becoming an ever-increasing concern in the Kansas City area, Park University will host a housing insecurity summit on Wednesday, Oct. 19, that will focus on the Northland area. The event, which is open to the public, will be held in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University’s flagship Parkville Campus from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The session will also be available via livestream at parkumedia.com.

The summit will include a panel of community organizations with a public question-and-answer session, brainstorming solutions and an interdisciplinary collaboration discussion. Panelists will also present information on how each is dealing with various aspects of homelessness, action steps the community as a whole can take and resources needed to help improve housing insecurity.

Community organizations expected to participate include: A Turning Point; City of Kansas City, Mo., Clay County (Mo.) and Platte County (Mo.) Children’s Division of the Missouri Department of Social Services; Department of Housing and Community Development (Homelessness Prevention); Hillcrest Platte County (Mo.); Kansas City (Mo.) Police Department; Metro Lutheran Ministry; Missouri Balance of State Continuum of Care; Missouri Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole; Parkville Living Center; Parkville Police Department; Platte County (Mo.) Sheriff’s Office; St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry at St. Therese Catholic Church; Southern Platte Emergency Assistance Center’s Food Pantry at Parkville Presbyterian Church; and Synergy Services.

Park University’s Department of Criminal Justice Administration, Department of Social Work and the Center for Interdisciplinary Networking, Training, Education and Research, are facilitating the event and will also present information.
